2025 Open JR Sailing
Open Junior Sailing - Ages 10-18
These informal sailing sessions are designed to give young sailors a chance to get out on the lake every week, all summer long.
A US Sailing certified instructor, along with several SSA volunteers, will be on hand to supervise and offer tips and tricks. We recommend completing one of the Sandpoint Parks & Rec. sailing classes prior to joining Open Junior Sailing, but this is not required.
NEW FOR 2025 - We will offer two sections this year: Beginner & Advanced. The beginner group will focus on the basics, while the advanced group steps up into solo sailing, spinnaker flying, and crewing on larger boats.
- Beginner: New to sailing (less than 2 yrs experience) - Capacity: 12
Advanced: 2+ years of sailing experience - Capacity: 12

All youth sailors must come prepared with:
Swimsuit - We will be in the water!
Base Layer/Sun shirt/Rashguard (next to skin): think long underwear, great for warmth and sun protection. A shorty wetsuit is also nice, but not mandatory.
Mid Layer (insulating): fleece sweater or vest.
Outer Layer (rain coat): wind/rain proof.
Head: snug fitting hat or visor, sunglasses with retaining strap.
Feet: we sail barefoot on the beach.
Sunscreen - Crucial!
Beach Towel
Drinks. Please send your sailor with a water bottle. We can refill as needed.
Snacks. Be sure to pack a snack in addition to eating a solid breakfast.
Jr Sailing Code of Conduct:
Sailors will be held to a code of good conduct. Respect for fellow sailors, safety, equipment, and the facility are paramount. When behavioral problems occur, every effort will be made to resolve the problem. If the behavioral problem is repeated or is serious, we will contact a parent/guardian and work toward a resolution. Sailors expelled for behavioral problems will not be allowed into future sessions.
